Rees named to Tewaaraton Award Watch List

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Sophomore long stick midfielder Ryland Rees was named to the 2017 Tewaaraton Award Men's Watch List, as announced by the Tewaaraton Award Foundation Tuesday night. The list includes 50 of the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlights the early contenders for the 2017 Tewaaraton Award.

The Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour, annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.

Rees currently leads the No. 18/18 Seawolves with 19 ground balls on the year, adding a pair of goals through the team's first 3-0 start since the 1989 season. As a freshman, the P. Coquitlam, British Columbia, native played in all 16 games and earned America East All-Rookie team honors by season's end. He tallied 45 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers in his first collegiate season. During the summer, Rees participated in the U19 World Lacrosse Championships for Team Canada. He earned defensive MVP and All-World honors for his play, finishing the tournament with six goals, an assist and eight ground balls as Team Canada made it to the championship game.
