STONY BROOK, N.Y. --  Stony Brook football senior captain Cal Daniels (Bethel, Conn.) was selected to the 2018 STATS FCS preseason All-American team, it was announced by the organization on Tuesday. 

Daniels earned a spot on the preseason first team at the full back position. The preseason All-CAA Football selection as well, Daniels also earned a place as a first team STATS FCS All-American following the 2017 season after he pulled down 20 receptions for 169 yards and a touchdown as a fullback/tight end. 

Behind Daniels, the 2017 Seawolves posted a 10-3 overall record and finished second in the CAA with a 7-1 mark. Stony Brook advanced to the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division I Football Championships.

Stony Brook, who reports to preseason camp on Thursday and begin practice on Friday morning, open the 2018 season on Sept. 1 at Air Force in Colorado Springs. Stony Brook will host Bryant on Sept. 8 in the home opener at Kenneth P. LaValle.
