RICHMOND, Va. – Stony Brook University graduate defensive back Carthell Flowers was tabbed the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday. Flowers anchored a Seawolves defense that forced six turnovers (four fumbles, two interceptions) in a 27-14 victory over Richmond on Homecoming.

Flowers was all over the field making plays on defense for Stony Brook. The graduate recorded a career-high 14 tackles (eight solo, six assists), the most by any Seawolf in a game this season. He registered a pair of tackles for loss and one sack. Flowers also forced a pair of fumbles. Flowers' sack and forced fumble late in the third quarter set up the Seawolves' final touchdown of the game.

Through eight games this season, Flowers has accumulated 56 tackles (35 solo, 21 assists), 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He ranks seventh in the CAA in total tackles, is tied for second in solo tackles, and is tied for third in forced fumbles.

He has registered six or more tackles in five games this season and his 14 tackles against Richmond were the most in a game by a Seawolf since Synceir Malone also had 14 tackles in a game against Towson on November 9, 2019. The 14 tackles are the fifth-most in a single-game by a CAA student-athlete this season.

Stony Brook is currently on the bye week and returns to action on Saturday, November 6, when it heads to Orono, Maine to face the Maine Black Bears at noon. The game is set to air on FloFootball.
