Stony Brook Football Spring Notebook - Week 1

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Spring has sprung which means the Stony Brook University football team is back on the field. Spring ball is underway for the Seawolves as the team will use the next five weeks to prepare for the 2022 campaign which kicks off on Thursday, September 1, against Rhode Island at LaValle Stadium.  

Stony Brook held its first practice of the Spring season on Saturday, March 26, at LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves were fired up to take the field for the first time since November when their 2021 campaign concluded with a Golden Apple victory over Albany. 

The energy at LaValle Stadium was at a high on Saturday as the guys were flying around the field and were beaming with excitement because they were back playing the game that they love. The team grew closer during Winter conditioning competitions as a large group of mid-year transfers meshed with the returners to build a sense of camaraderie that has been carried over into the first few days of the Spring slate. 

The Seawolves got back at it on Tuesday morning, this time the setting was inside the state-of-the-art indoor practice facility. Since opening in 2020, the indoor has become a tremendous resource for the Seawolves as they can hold indoor practices and team meetings when inclement weather prevents the team from going outdoors at LaValle Stadium. 

The Seawolves are back on the field on Thursday for practice and conclude the week with their first intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday at 11 a.m. The scrimmage is open to the public. 

2022 STONY BROOK FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

Stony Brook announced its full 2022 schedule on March 22. The schedule features five home games at LaValle Stadium, the eight-game CAA slate, as well as a marquee non-conference matchup with FBS foe UMass.
