WEEK 4 NOTEBOOK

Stony Brook Football Spring Notebook - Week 4

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Another week has come and gone, which means the Stony Brook football program continues to inch closer to its annual Spring game on Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m. The Seawolves are in the midst of another week of practice after they wrapped up their third scrimmage of the Spring slate this past Saturday.

The offense found the end zone a total of three times in the offense-defense based scrimmage on Saturday. Quarterback Joshua Zamot tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver RJ Lamarre to open up the scoring. On the next set of plays, running back Jayden Cook found the end zone with a 13-yard run.

The highlight of the day came from wide receiver Tedy Afful as he was on the receiving end of a 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Drew Guttieri. Afful made the catch, broke a tackle in the open field, and jetted his way to the end zone for the score.

There has been a lot of competition. Coach Priore emphasizes physicality within both the offense and defense, so it’s great to see guys being competitive. We emphasize taking the ball away, we do a lot of takeaway drills during practice and when we get the chance to take the ball away that’s what we emphasize during drills at practice.
Captain Randy Pringle on how the Spring season has been going and the Seawolves' defensive goals

On the defensive side of the ball, the Seawolves were flying around making plays. Captains Randy Pringle and Reidgee Dimanche led the defense with great energy as they both were around the ball whenever they stepped foot on the field.

Following Saturday’s scrimmage, the team welcomed long-time friend of the program Curt Hylton. Curt spoke to the team following the scrimmage and offered a message of positivity to the student-athletes as they continue to embark on their collegiate careers.

The Seawolves offered their helping hand to a local Long Island soup kitchen on Saturday afternoon. Several student-athletes went to the soup kitchen to delivery Easter hams to families in need.

Congratulations to football alums Mitchell Wright and TJ Morrison on their career accomplishments. Wright was selected to the prestigious NFF Hampshire Honor Society, while Morrison signed a free agent contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
