The men's distance medley relay team qualified for the IC4A Championships and Jenny Payne improved her school record in the mile at the Yale Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The men's DMR team of Michael Thompson, Kereem Vargas, Chris Hunt and Jonathan Brims finished third with a time of 10:18.24, earning them a spot in the IC4As.
Other scoring performances on the men's side came from Dave deWolfe in the mile, who finished third in 4:22.44. Jason Hunt came in fifth in the 55m hurdles, while the 4x800m relay team of Thompson, Vargas, Craig Gordon and Jason Strom placed sixth.
For the women, Jenny Payne lowered her mile record to 5:12.72, which gave her fifth place overall in the event. Dana Shepherd was also outstanding for Stony Brook, finishing second in the 55m dash and equaling her personal-best time of 7.32. That time also gives her the second spot in the record books for the distance.
Other notable performances came from Abigail Nathanial, third in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 8.75 inches, Corinne Leake, fourth in the 400m with a time of 60.32, and the DMR team of Payne, Nathanial, Jackie Berman, and Laura Hixson, which finished sixth.
The Seawolves return to competition on Friday, Jan. 18, at the Fordham Invitational.
