Hunt, Leake Lead Track Team At SCSU Invitational

New Haven, Conn. - Corinne Leake was victorious in two events while Chris Hunt placed first in one to lead the Stony Brook track and field team at the Southern Connecticut State Invitational yesterday.

Leake, competing in the 800m for the first time ever, placed first in a time of 2:21.39. Leake, along with Nicola Baker, Abigail Nathanial and Jackie Berman, then won the 4 x 400m relay with a time of 4:02.98.

Hunt captured the 400m, winning in 49.73. Kereem Vargas placed third with a time of 50.64.

The Seawolves also posted several runner-up and third-place finishes. Jonathan Brims placed second in the 800m with a time of 1:57.63, while Dave deWolfe was second in the 5000m in 15:22.97. Dale Summerville was third in the 1500m, completing the race in 4:02.74. The men's 4 x 400m relay--Hunt, Vargas, Brims and Rob DelGiorno--also placed third with a time of 3:30.34.

In field events, Joe Cardinale was runner-up in the discus with a throw of 134 feet while Miles Stewart's toss of 154 feet, one inch, in the hammer throw placed him second. Omar Moore and Elias Dimitrakakis took second and third place, respectively, in the triple jump with jumps of 39 feet, 11 1/4 inches and 38 feet, 9 1/2 inches. Dimitrakakis also took fourth in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 9 3/4 inches.

On the women's side, Nicola Baker finished third in the 400m in 60.15, and Jackie Berman was third in the 1500m in 4:56.09. Patty Gregory's time of 19:34.60 in the 5000m placed her third.

Other scorers were Laura Hixson in the 1500m in 4:59.82, Karla Faustin in the 800m, fourth in 2:25.05, Abigail Nathanial, fourth in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 7 1/2 inches, and Nicole Lawerence, sixth in the shot put with 30 feet, 5 1/2 inches.

The Seawolves return to competition on Saturday, April 13, at the Central Connecticut Invitational.
