Jackie Berman captured the 3000m for the Seawolves' only individual first-place finish at the Metropolitan Championships at St. John's University on Saturday.
Berman's time of 10:12.54 was the third-fastest finish in Stony Brook history. Patty Gregory was seventh in the event with a time of 10:58.93.
Dale Summerville recorded the top finish for the men's team in the 1500m, while three Seawolves finished in the top 10 in the event. Summerville placed second in the 1500m by just three-tenths of a second, recording a time of 3:58.37. His time of 3:56.75 in the prelims is the second-fastest time in school history.
Jonathan Brims finished fifth in the 1500m with a time of 3:59.12, while Dave deWolfe was eighth in a time of 4:05.81. Preston Smolinski placed 13th with a time of 4:14.12.
Joe Cardinale led the way in field events, finishing third in the shot put with a throw of 13.39m. Costa Sevdinoglou followed with a fourth-place finish (12.97m) and Miles Stewart was fifth (12.56m). Stewart also recorded a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.70m.
The women's team placed 11th overall, while the men's team was ninth. St. John's captured both titles.
The Seawolves close out the 2001-02 campaign with a trip to the IC4A/ECAC Championships this weekend.
