Matuza Leads Track And Field At Yale Invitational

New Haven, Conn. - Senior Craig Matuza set two school records and qualified for the IC4A Championships in both the weight throw and shot put to lead the Stony Brook track and field team at the Yale Invitational this weekend.

Matuza captured the weight throw with a school record toss of 56 feet, two and a half inches. He finished in second place in the shot put with his second IC4A qualifying mark of 50 feet, 11 and a half inches.

Other notable performances on the men's side came from Dave DeWolfe, who took second place in the 3000m with a time of 8:43.17. The men's 4 x 800m relay team of Dale Summerville, Kereem Vargas, Jonathan Brims and Brian Farrell also finished runner-up with a time of 7.58.65.

On the women's side, the distance medley relay team of Leonora Joy, Nicola Baker, Corinne Leake and Jackie Nunez took third place overall in a school record time of 12:13.26. The 4 x 800m team of Lauren Gengo, Nurenia Cuffee, Leonora Joy and Jackie Nunez took fourth place with a school record time of 9:45.28. Laura Hixson finished third in the 3000m with a time of 10:50.79.

Both teams return to action this weekend at the Manhattan Invitational.
