Track And Field Opens Outdoor Season At Monmouth

West Long Branch, N.J. - The Stony Brook track and field team opened its outdoor season on Saturday at Monmouth.

Abigail Nathaniel captured the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 9 3/4 inches. Jackie Nunez and Corinne Leake finished first and second, respectively, in the 800m. Nunez finished the race in 2:15.70 while Leake had a finish of 2:17.50.

Other solid results came from Jackie Berman, who was fourth in the 800m; and Lauren Gengo, who was fifth in the 1500m with a time of 4:55.10.

On the men's side, Jonathan Brims won the 1500m in 4:01.88. Brian Farrell finished fourth in the same event with a time of 4:04.61. Craig Matuza was runner-up in the discus with a throw of 155 feet, six inches, and third in the hammer with a distance of 159 feet, eight inches. He was also fourth in the shot put (51 feet, one and 3/4 inches). Preston Smolinski took third place in the Steeplechase.
