Track And Field Competes At MET Championships

New York, N.Y. - Jackie Nunez and Craig Matuza recorded runner-up finishes to lead Stony Brook in individual events at the MET Championships.

Nunez' time of 4:32.50 placed her second in the 1500m, while teammate Lauren Gengo finished seventh (4:48.58).

Abigail Nathaniel recorded a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 11.5 inches. The women's distance medley relay team placed second in 12:08.44.

The men's team also recorded several impressive finishes. Matuza kept up his solid performance in field events, finishing in the top four in three events. He was second in the shot put (51 feet, 5 inches) and placed fourth in both the discus and hammer throw. Matuza had a toss of 137 feet, 4 inches in the discus and 173 feet, one inch in the hammer.

Teammate Joe Cardinale was also successful, placing second in the discus (137 feet, four inches) and fifth in the shot put (45 feet, 10.5 inches).

The men's DMR team captured the title with a time of 10:13.42, and the Seawolves finished four, five and six in the 1500m. Dale Summerville was fourth (3:58.52) and was followed by Dave deWolfe (4:00.64) and Brian Farrell (4:01.22).

The women's team finished 10th overall while the men were seventh.
