Tina VanDerMeiren was named the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Stony Brook, head strength and conditioning coach David Van Dyke announced on Thursday.
VanDerMeiren will be responsible for designing and implementing speed, strength and conditioning workouts for men's and women's tennis, men's and women's swimming and diving, softball and track and field, as well as executing speed, strength and conditioning workouts for football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's lacrosse, baseball and volleyball.
"Tina's hire is a great addition to the Speed, Strength and Conditioning program here at Stony Brook," said Van Dyke. "She comes to us with a vast knowledge of the field of strength and conditioning and will have an immediate impact in helping our athletes reach their athletic potential."
VanDerMeiren arrives at Stony Brook after spending the last year as an assistant/intern at Michigan State University. While at MSU, VanDerMeiren was responsible for administering the strength and conditioning programs for the field hockey, baseball, softball, gymnastics, crew, volleyball, cross country and men's and women's soccer teams.
Prior to her time at MSU, VanDerMeiren served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Princeton for the 2002-03 school year. While at Princeton, she coached high-intensity and Olympic programs with football, baseball, softball, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, field hockey and basketball.
VanDerMeiren also had stints with Team Conditioning Systems as a strength and conditioning coach and Rider University as an assistant manager/fitness intern.
A 2003 graduate of Rutgers University with a B.S. in exercise science, VanDerMeiren was a two-time Mid-Atlantic Region selection in crew, earning a 14th place finish at NCAA Championships in 2001 and four top-three finishes at the Big East Regatta.
