The Stony Brook women's tennis team opened up the 2004-05 dual match season with a 5-1 victory over Hofstra on Friday afternoon at University Courts. With the victory, the Seawolves record moved to 1-0 on the young season.
The Seawolves opened the match with a sweep of doubles play to earn the point. Sandy Wijeratne and Anne Cathrine Valle won 8-2 at No. 1, while Hana Chovanova and Victoria Vasile earned a hard fought 8-7 (7-3) win at No. 2 and Victoria Vovsha and Rachel Kimelman teamed to win 8-6 at No. 3.
Stony Brook cruised to the win by dominating singles play as Chovanova eased to a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1, Valle won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3, Vovsha won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and Kimelman earned 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow morning when they take on Sacred Heart at 9 a.m. and Wagner at 3 p.m.
