Ask the AD: Fiore Answers Your Questions

Oct. 24, 2005

In regards to Football Scholarships, just a couple of ideas;

Could it be done gradually say 5 a year, then add on each year after so the cost isn't felt all at once?

I read an article about USC, years ago where they got donations by positions (as an example someone might want to donate towards a Linebacker)

I just want to say that your doing a great job in such a short time.

Answer:

Thanks for a great question. Let me begin by thanking you for your support of Stony Brook football. As a season ticket holder, you are a valuable member of the university community and a vital component to our success. We hope that you are enjoying the games and the fan-friendly LaValle Stadium.

Now for your question. Division I-AA scholarship football requires that you offer 63 scholarships, a level of commitment that is quite higher than where we are now. Currently, we are in the midst of developing a strategic plan that will analyze the feasibility of scholarship football at Stony Brook in great detail. One thing is for certain, we will need the help of season ticket holders, alumni, the community and many others to make that dream a reality - a dream that hopefully someday will be on display on Saturdays at LaValle Stadium for many years to come.

Again, thanks for your question and we appreciate your support. If I can be of any more assistance, please let me know. Go Seawolves!

Jim
