Women's Tennis Pounds Sacred Heart

Fairfield, Conn. - The Stony Brook women's tennis team won all but one match as it defeated Sacred Heart 6-1 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon. The victory improves the Seawolves' record to 10-7 this season.

The Brook took all three doubles matches to earn the opening point as Anne Cathrine Valle and Sandy Wijeratne won 8-2 at No. 1, Hana Chovanova and Monica Myers earned an 8-4 win at No. 2 and Victoria Vasile and Victoria Vovsha gutted out a 9-7 victory at No. 3.

The Seawolves took five of six singles matches to coast to a victory. Chovanova came from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, while Valle won 7-6, 6-1 at No. 2, Wijeratne cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3, Vovsha easily won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5 and Vasile picked it up after a slow start to take a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6.

The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Worchester, Mass., to take on New Hampshire at 10 a.m. and Holy Cross at 2 p.m.
