Stony Brook Announces Staff Promotions

July 20, 2005

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University Director of Athletics Jim Fiore today announced the promotions of Paul Schlickmann to Executive Associate Director of Athletics and Donna Woodruff to Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator.

"It is with great pride that I announce two well-deserved promotions for a couple of talented administrators," said Fiore. "Paul and Donna continue to play an instrumental role in leading our athletic department towards creating and building a culture of excellence that ultimately provides a positive impact on the lives of our student-athletes and staff while also advancing the educational mission of the university."

For the past two years, Schlickmann has supervised the daily internal operations in the role of Senior Associate Director of Athletics for 20 intercollegiate programs as a member of the senior management team that sets department policy at Stony Brook. He is responsible for all varsity program operations for men's basketball, football, baseball, men's and women's cross country, men's lacrosse, men's tennis and men's and women's track and field while also overseeing facility operations and event management. In addition, he develops and manages a department operating budget of $12 million, administers team travel, contest scheduling and the management of conference and postseason championships. In 2004-05, Stony Brook balanced its operating budget for the first time in the last six years while chairing the search committee for Men's Lacrosse and Men's Basketball, the Director of Speed Strength and Conditioning and the Director of Student-Athlete Development.

Woodruff joined the Stony Brook staff in May of 2004 as the Associate Director of Athletics for Administration and Student-Athlete Welfare/SWA and is also a member of the Stony Brook Athletics senior management team. She has direct oversight of several administrative units and staff including Compliance and Eligibility, Academic Advising and Student-Athlete Services. This year, Stony Brook student-athletes had 157 student-athletes named to the America East honor roll and compiled an overall grade-point average of 2.98, both department bests since Stony Brook joined the America East in 2001. She also has program oversight for women's basketball, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, and men's and women's swimming while also serving as the chair of the search committees for Stony Brook's women's basketball head coach and the senior associate director of athletics for external services.
