Stony Brook Announces Staff Additions

July 22, 2005

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook assistant athletic director for marketing and communications Rob Emmerich announced on Friday two new additions to the athletic communications staff. Mike Newhouse has been named the assistant director, while Brian Magoffin has been named intern.

Newhouse arrives at Stony Brook after spending the past year as an intern in the external affairs and sports information offices at the University of Evansville. While at Evansville, he served as the primary contact for volleyball, softball and swimming and diving, while also assisting with season and group tickets, corporate sponsorships and special events.

A 2001 graduate of the University of Texas with a bachelor of business administration in marketing, Newhouse went on to earn his masters of education with an emphasis in sports management from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2004. There he served as a marketing intern for one year and a graduate assistant for facilities and programming for two years, both with campus recreation.

Magoffin joins the staff after graduating from Springfield College in May with a bachelor of science degree in sport management. He spent one semester as an intern at the University of Massachusetts in the athletic media relations office where his responsibilities included editing and designing media guides as well as daily and game-day functions within the department. Magoffin, who spent a semester in the Springfield sports communications office, also assisted with the 2004 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off.
