Stony Brook Athletics announced the hiring of two new staff members and an assistant coach on Thursday. Eric George will serve as the external affairs intern and Adam McLeod as the intern in facility and operations, while Amanda Travlos was named the assistant men's and women's tennis coach.
George arrives at Stony Brook after spending the summer as a host/greeter captain for the Cleveland Indians, his second stint with the baseball club. In this role, he was responsible for supervising ushers and ticket takers and overseeing a staff of 300 employees at Jacobs' Field.
Before his time at with the Indians, George spent two years as a graduate assistant with the campus recreation office at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The GA for intramural sports, George managed a staff of forty undergraduate students while planning, scheduling, marketing and organizing intramural sports and other campus programs for students.
George also spent five seasons as a guest service representative with the Indians, working with several departments including ushers, ticket takers, marketing, custodial, maintenance, security, merchandising, concessions and ticketing to help enhance the experience for all guests at Jacobs' field.
A 2002 graduate of Indiana University with a bachelors of science degree in operations management and marketing, George spent a semester as an intern in athletic administration at Indiana and a summer as a communications assistant with the Mid-American Conference. He went on to earn his masters in business administration from Southern Illinois in May of 2005.
McLeod joins the Stony Brook staff as a facilities and operations intern after spending the past four years as a student assistant at the school. He is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the athletic facilities while serving as event manager for all home intercollegiate athletic contests and other special events, including concerts, trade shows and high school sporting events. He also supervises the facilities and operations student staff and graduate assistants.
As an undergraduate, McLeod served as an event manager/facilities and operations assistant for all four years, serving as the facilities director for the 2005 America East Softball Championship as well as all high school basketball, lacrosse, wrestling and football games, concerts and other special events at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium and the Indoor Sports Complex.
McLeod graduated from Stony Brook in December 2004 with a bachelors of arts degree in economics.
Travlos joins the Seawolves tennis program after serving as an assistant coach at Wagner for the last two seasons. While at Wagner, she was responsible for daily operations of both the men's and women's teams, including recruiting, scheduling, travel planning, budgeting, fundraising and compliance. In addition, she designed and implemented strength and conditioning programs and conducted practices. Travlos was also responsible for monitoring the academic progress of the program, and helped guide the men's team to the highest GPA of any team at Wagner.
A four-year letterwinner at Rutgers University, Travlos amassed over 100 wins at singles and doubles. The Big East Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Travlos played No. 1 doubles all four years while helping the Scarlet Knights reach the Big East Tournament in each of her four seasons. She capped her career with Rutgers by earning team MVP honors as a senior.
After graduating from Rutgers with a bachelors degree in communications, mass media and library studies in 2002, Travlos worked as a paralegal for Hughes Hubbard and Reed, LLP. She went on to earn her masters in education from Wagner in 2005.
