Stu Goldstein, his son Darin, Stony Brook University President Dr. Shirley Strum Kenny and Director of Athletics Jim Fiore took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Development Center on Friday afternoon. Over 150 student-athletes, coaches and faculty greeted Stu as he took a tour of the state-of-the-art facility for the first time.
"I am very impressed to see everyone today and I am happy to be back at Stony Brook," said Stony Brook Hall of Famer Stu Goldstein '74. "I want to thank President Kenny and Jim Fiore for helping put this together. On behalf of the Goldstein Family and my son Darin, I am very proud and pleased to be back at the University which was a wonderful place for me. I give back what I can and will continue to do so in the future."
The 6,000-square foot facility is located off the Pritchard Gymnasium adjacent to the Sports Complex atrium and it accommodates over 425 Stony Brook student-athletes as they pursue their academic goals on a daily basis. The space features a state-of-the-art computer lab, a study hall/multipurpose function room, a career resource/library area and several private tutor rooms. The Goldstein Center also includes administrative offices for the academic advising staff.
"The Stony Brook Department of Athletics strives to maintain a culture based on core values which espouse loyalty to family and team, a winning attitude, class, pride, high expectations and high accountability," said Director of Athletics Jim Fiore. "The Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Development Center is just another step toward providing a positive, meaningful educational experience for all Stony Brook student-athletes. Stu Goldstein shared that passion for academic and athletic excellence, and we are honored that he continues to show his support for current and future Stony Brook student-athletes through this Center."
The Goldstein Center was made possible by the generosity of Stuart Goldstein '74, an All-American squash player at Stony Brook who made a significant donation on behalf of his family in support of this project.
