The Stony Brook women's tennis team defeated Quinnipiac for the first time in program history as the Seawolves edged the Bobcats, 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon. Sandy Wijeratne outlasted Tina Hoang at No. 2 singles to clinch the Stony Brook win as the Seawolves improve to 8-6 on the year.
The Seawolves won two out of three doubles matches to claim the point. Erica Federgreen and Victoria Vasile won at No. 2, 9-7 and Monica Myers and Victoria Vovsha edged their opponents at No. 3, 9-8 (7-5).
Quinnipiac then claimed victories at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles while Vovsha won at No. 6, 7-6, 6-2 and Hana Chovanova edged Gabby Pasternak at No. 1, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to knot the match up at 3-3. Wijeratne won a decisive three-set battle at No. 2, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the Stony Brook win.
The Seawolves return to action on Saturday, when they host Hartford. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 P.M. start.
