Stony Brook University Director of Athletics Jim Fiore announced the promotions of four staff members Matthew Larsen, Courtney Boergers, Antony Bonavita and Robert Emmerich.
Matt Larsen has been promoted to Associate Director of Athletics for Business Operations and Administration. Larsen had been serving as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Business Operations and Administration since November of 2004 and will continue with his responsibilities for all aspects of the athletic business office, including the budgets for each of Stony Brook's 20 Division I sports. He also oversees the department's equipment room and summer camp operations. Larsen will continue to serve as a member of the Athletic Director's senior management team where he plays a vital role in assisting with strategic planning for the department. He will also assume additional responsibilities for sport program oversight, merchandise and business development initiatives.
Courtney Boergers has been named Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Development. Boergers was named the Director of Student-Athlete Development at Stony Brook in July of 2005 following her original position at Stony Brook as an academic advisor in September of 2003. As the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Development, Boergers is responsible for the assessment, development and implementation of all academic advising, life skills preparation and career services for Stony Brook's 425 student-athletes. In addition to the direct oversight Courtney has for all academic affairs regarding the men's basketball, football, men's lacrosse and softball teams, Courtney's role has expanded with the recent opening of the 6,000 square foot Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Development Center and includes responsibility for tracking APR scores, further developing academic tutoring services and managing the staff of academic advisors.
Antony Bonavita was named Assistant Director of Athletics for Facility and Event Operations. Bonavita was named Director of Facility and Event Operations in July of 2004 and remains responsible for the daily operations, maintenance, construction and renovations of Stony Brook's athletic facilities, including the Stony Brook University Arena and Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Bonavita is also charged with overseeing the events management team which is responsible for the coordination and implementation of both athletic and special events for the department. In addition to the athletic contests of Stony Brook's 20 sports programs, Bonavita also manages the operations of the numerous special events hosted each year in the athletic facilities including concerts, trade shows, commencement ceremonies and high school athletic championships. Bonavita also served as the Tournament Manager for last year's sold-out NCAA Men's Lacrosse Quarterfinals held in LaValle Stadium.
Rob Emmerich has been named Assistant Director of Athletics for External Services. For the past two years, Emmerich has served as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing and Communications, working as the primary media contact for men's basketball, men's lacrosse and football while also assisting in the development of Stony Brook's marketing plan for the Athletics Department. Emmerich, who has been a full-time member of the Stony Brook Athletics Department staff for almost 10 years, has most recently overseen the development of new website designs, improved corporate sponsorships, facilitated a two-year TV deal with MSG and developed a weekly cable television show dedicated to Stony Brook Athletics. In Emmerich's new role, he will now spearhead the Stony Brook Athletics annual giving campaign, the development of corporate partners, and have oversight of ticketing and sales.
