Women's Tennis Eases Past Hofstra and St. Peter's

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's women's tennis team made short work of a pair of opponents on Saturday, picking up a 5-1 win over Hofstra before sweeping past St. Peter's, 6-0. Senior Sandy Wijeratne (Dubai, U.A.E.) lost just one game for Stony Brook on her way to a pair of singles wins.

Against Hofstra in the morning the Seawolves took two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Stony Brook dropped just one game between the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles and dropped the decision at No. 1 by a 9-8 (7-5) score.

In singles play the only loss for Stony Brook came at the No. 1 singles position. Wijeratne dropped just one game on her way to a win at No. 3, while junior Erica Federgreen (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and senior Victoria Vovsha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) each dropped just a pair of games in 6-1, 6-1 wins.

With darkness approaching only the singles matches were contested against St. Peter's and Stony Brook took all six in straight sets to claim the victory. Wijeratne led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 win, while sophomore Claudia Sanua (Bryanston, South Africa) took the victory at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Federgreen, Vovsha and sophomore Shaina Murugan (Manalapan, N.J.) each dropped just two games in straight sets wins.
