Senior Morgan Sweany (Mission Viejo, Calif.) has been name the America East Volleyball Player of the Week the conference announced today. It is the first player of the week honor earned by a Seawolf volleyball player this season and marks the eighth time in her career that she has won the award. Sweany's play at the Seton Hall Invitational last weekend earned her a spot on the all-tournament team and helped Stony Brook to the team title.
Sweany had a solid week in Stony Brook's four matches, getting a pair of double-doubles and leading the team in aces (11) while finishing second in kills (68) and digs (52). For the week she averaged a conference best 5.53 points per game while also averaging over 4.5 kills, including putting away 25 in the five-game win over Penn to close out the Seton Hall Invitational. She also completed one of her double-doubles against the Quakers, getting 19 digs while also adding a pair of aces as she was named to the all-tournament team. She also recorded a double-double of 13 kills and 16 digs in the first match of the tournament against Fairfield to go with a season-high six aces in the match. Against nationally ranked St. John's she picked up 16 kills.
