Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at Fordham

Bronx, N.Y. - Stony Brook's track & field teams opened their indoor season on Friday night at the Fordham Invitational. Junior Lisa Voltaire (Stockholm, Sweden) led the Seawolves with a first-place finish in the women's 3,000-meter run, finishing in 10:53.5, seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Stony Brook had two other top-5 finishers in the 3,000-meter with junior Jacquie Kehoe (Katonah, N.Y.) taking fourth in the women's (11:07.9) and junior Kurt Wende (Williamsville, N.Y.) finishing fourth in the men's (8:57.3).

The Seawolves also fared well in the 1,000-meter with sophomore Kristina Doyle (Lockport, N.Y.) taking third (3:23.1) and sophomore Kristen Connolly (Massapequa, N.Y.) taking fourth (3:26.1). On the men's side, junior Brandon Leung (Rego Park, N.Y.) took third (2:38.1).

The men's top finish came from senior Merlon Pinnock (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), who crossed second in the 400-meter in a time of 52.6. The men's team also received a second-place finish from their 4X400 relay team (3:39.3).

Rounding out the top-five finishes were freshman Matthew Carnes (Hillsborough, N.J.) who placed fourth in the shot put (11.94 meters) and senior Gary Chan (Flushing, N.Y.), whose time of 4:28.3 in the mile was good enough for fifth.

Stony Brook will return to the Vincent T. Lombardi Center Fieldhouse next Friday for another meet starting at 5:00 p.m.
