Track and Field Competes at New Balance NYC Qualifying Challenge

May 12, 2008

New York, N.Y. - Stony Brook's track and field team sent three athletes to the New Balance NYC Qualifying Challenge on Randall's Island this past weekend in hopes of qualifying for the ECAC and IC4A Championships. Sophomores Lisa Voltaire (Stockholm, Sweden) and Iain Whitfield (Stroud, England) both finished with qualifying times.

Voltaire completed the 1,500-meter event in an ECAC qualifying time of 4:33.61, which was quick enough for second place. This is the first time Voltaire has qualified for the ECAC Outdoor Championship.

Whitfield took second in the men's 1,500-meter, finishing in an IC4A qualifying time of 3:51.17, which is also a personal best time for him. Sophomore Daire Bermingham (Portmarnock, Ireland) also competed in the 1,500-meter, crossing seventh in 3:52.77. This was a personal-best time for Bermingham, who missed the IC4A time by just .77 of a second.
