Phelps Named Assistant Director of Athletics for Facility Operations & Events at Stony Brook

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's Director of Athletics, Jim Fiore, has announced that Todd Phelps has been hired as Assistant Director of Athletics for Facility Operations & Events. "We are very fortunate to add such a talented, high quality person and experienced leader and administrator to our Seawolves family at a time of great facility growth for our department," Fiore said. "Without question Todd's diverse professional experiences, infectious personality and wonderful interpersonal skills will prove very beneficial to Stony Brook University in the coming years."

Phelps comes to Stony Brook after six and a half years working on the athletics staff at Brown University. He started there in March 2002 as Coordinator of Athletic Facilities and Event Operations and was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director - Operations in August, 2006. His responsibilities included oversight of many areas, including management of all home intercollegiate contests, scheduling for intercollegiate programs, outside rental groups, summer camps and clinics, and the indoor tennis and squash facility. In addition, Phelps was also the program administrator for women's gymnastics, women's lacrosse, and softball.

Prior to Brown, Phelps spent a year at Yale University as Facilities and Operations Assistant. Prior to Yale, he spent six years as an assistant men's basketball coach at Middlebury College in Vermont. He also served as Coordinator of Facilities and Operations during three of his years at Middlebury.

Phelps graduated from Ithaca College in New York in 1995 with a degree in physical education. While at Ithaca, he spent 3 years as a student-assistant coach for the men's basketball program.

Todd and his wife, Nancy, will reside in Coram, N.Y.
