Stony Brook, N.Y. -
More than 100 young athletes and their parents took part in the Wolfie's Sportsmanship Academy on Saturday where they learned about being good sports and positive role models as both athletes and fans. The successful event, hosted by the the Stony Brook University Department of Athletics prior to its men's soccer game against Albany, was part of the America's East Conference's STARS initiative (Student-Athletes Advancing Respect Through Sportsmanship).
The young athletes in attendance spent the afternoon with Stony Brook student-athletes watching videos, making posters, learning cheers and sharing their experiences. At the conclusion of the program, all participants and their parents committed themselves to playing fair and demonstrating good sportsmanship. The young athletes then joined the men's soccer teams from both Stony Brook and Albany on the field while the captains of both teams read the America East Sportsmanship Code prior to the game. The day concluded with all of the graduates from Wolfie's Sportsmanship Academy joining the soccer team on the field to get autographs from their favorite Stony Brook players.
Wolfie's Sportsmanship Academy is one of the many events held throughout the year for members of the community.
