Nov. 18, 2009

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's Department of Athletics' student-development office welcomed a Stony Brook alum to its staff with the announcement by Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development, Courtney Sanfelippo, that Rajesh Kumar '00 has been hired as an Academic Advisor. Kumar will work solely with the football program, offering academic support to the team.

"We are very excited to have Rajesh back on campus," said Sanfelippo. "His experience as a student-athlete at Stony Brook coupled with his professional background in education will be a valuable asset to our staff and help our department soar to new heights."

Kumar returns to Stony Brook after receiving his Bachelor's of Arts degree in history in May of 2000. He also played for the Seawolves football team from 1996-1999. Kumar went on to earn a Master's of Arts degree in history from CUNY Lehman in January of 2008.

Kumar brings eight years of teaching experience to the position, having served as a social studies teacher at Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, N.Y. from 2001 to 2009. During that time, Kumar spent his summers working for the Parks and Recreations Departments of Rye Brook and Eastchester where he served as the assistant director of the day camps.
