New York, N.Y. - Entering the NYU Last Chance Meet on Friday afternoon, sophomore Lucy Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) had the 15th fastest time in the mile in the nation--the top-16 times are invited to the NCAA Championships. Van Dalen now has the fifth fastest time in the country, becoming the first student-athlete in Stony Brook school history to post an NCAA Automatic Qualifying time in indoor track & field.

Van Dalen, who has won every race she has entered this season, not only extended her unbeaten streak but also improved upon the school record she broke earlier this year by almost four full seconds, crossing in 4:36.71. The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held in College Station, Texas on the weekend of March 13th.

Also posting top-three finishes for the Seawolves were juniors Alex Felce (Stroud, England) and Daire Bermingham (Portmarnock, Ireland). Felce took first in the men's mile with a time of 4:08.50 and Bermingham crossed third in 4:12.20.
