SAAC Completes Successful Soles4Souls Shoe Drive

May 14, 2009

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) recently completed its second successful Soles4SoulsTM shoe drive which collected over 525 pairs of shoes. For the second consecutive year, A-1 First Class - Viking Moving & Storage Inc. provided the shipping services for the project. Schwab's 2nd Wind, Inc. of East Setauket served as a community collection spot, contributing all collected shoes to this drive.

SAAC led the collection effort at Stony Brook. The project was expanded this year to include drop boxes in all 36 residence halls on Stony Brook's campus in addition to collection points in the Department of Athletics. "It was a great effort by our SAAC," said Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Administration Sue Serafini. "The partnership between the SACC and the campus and local communities made this project a tremendous success."

Soles4SoulsTM is a shoe charity dedicated to helping those in need, facilitating the donations of shoes which are used to aid the hurting worldwide. They have provided shoes to over 40 countries as well as coordinating relief efforts for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
