Stony Brook University Athletics Adds To Academic Support Staff

June 30, 2009

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's Department of Athletics has announced that Todd Wyant and Danielle Hibbard have been added as the newest members of the department's Office of Student-Athlete Development.

Wyant comes to Stony Brook with over 13 years of experience in the athletics academic services field and will join the Seawolves staff as the Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Development and will work directly with the football program while also supporting all aspects of Stony Brook's comprehensive academic and life skills programs. Most recently he spent a little more than two years working with the United States Ski and Snowboard Association where he was responsible for the management of the organization's interaction and communication with its elite team athletes. Prior to the USSA he spent six years at Syracuse University as the Associate AD for Student-Athlete Services where he was responsible for the student-athlete development program that provided academic assistance, career and graduate school exploration and community service and personal development for more than 500 student-athletes.

"I am thrilled to welcome Todd Wyant to the Student-Athlete Development staff," said Courtney Sanfelippo, Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Development. "Todd brings a wealth of experience from very reputable athletic programs and will be an instant impact to not only our football student-athletes, but more importantly to our Athletic Department as a whole. His infectious personality combined with his advising expertise made him a perfect choice as the new advisor for the football team."

Prior to joining the staff at Syracuse, Wyant was a member of the academic support staffs at Kansas State University and the University of Wyoming. He is a 1988 graduate of Montana State University, receiving a B.S. in psychology there. Wyant also earned a Master's in leadership and human development from Wyoming in 1994.

Danielle Hibbard served as a graduate assistant in the Academic Services for Athletes office at Indiana State University for the past year. During her time there she mentored at-risk student-athletes, monitored academic progress, supervised study table staff and organized the tutoring program for athletes. She also assisted with planning and organizing Student-Athlete Advisory Council functions. Hibbard will join the Stony Brook team as an academic advisor where her primary role will be to offer academic support to the volleyball team, men's and women's soccer teams, men's and women's swimming and diving teams and the baseball team.

"I am so excited to welcome Danielle Hibbard to the Student-Athlete Development staff", remarked Sanfelippo. "Danielle's experiences as both a collegiate student-athlete and academic advisor made her a perfect fit for this position. Her passion for athletic advising is so evident and we are so fortunate to have her working here at Stony Brook. Her enthusiasm for learning will be contagious as she assists our student-athletes in their career, academic, and personal development."

A 2007 graduate of Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania, Hibbard was a double major, receiving B.S. degrees in both marketing and management. A member of the women's basketball team at St. Francs, she was the team captain as a senior and earned a place on the Northeast Conference Academic Honor Roll. Hibbard also graduated with a Master's degree in recreation and sport management in May 2009 from Indiana State.
