Stony Brook's track and field teams opened 2010 at the Gotham Cup hosted by The Armory. Sophomore Kristal Conklin (Middletown, N.Y.) and senior Lisa Voltaire (Stockholm, Sweden) led the women's team and sophomore Matthew Carnes (Hillsborough, N.Y.) and senior Robert Treadwell (Glendale, N.Y.) paced the men's team.
Conklin ran the mile in 5:14.16, edging Katie Nestor of The College of New Jersey by just 47 tenths of a second for second place. Voltaire completed the 3000m in 10:04.04, good for a fourth-place finish. Sophomores Jillian Fauser (East Northport, N.Y.) and Justine Noel (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also posted top-15 finishes as Fauser took 11th in the 1000m (3:10.32) and Noel took 15th in the 500-meter dash (1:20.17).
On the men's side, Carnes and Treadwell took third and fifth, respectively, in the shot put. Carnes threw a 12.82 and Treadwell recorded a 10.83. Junior Brandon Leung (Rego Park, N.Y.) finished 12th in the mile with a time of 4:30.00.
Both teams are back in action next Saturday when they travel to compete in the Princeton Invitational in New Jersey.
