Stony Brook University's women's tennis team fell to No. 63 Brown, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Gayatri Krishnan (Chennai, India) and freshman Aylin Mehter (Massapequa, N.Y.) won at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Stony Brook nearly earned the doubles point as Mehter and sophomore Anna Pieschl (Gothenburg, Sweden) won at No. 2 after Brown had opened the match with a victory at No. 1. But the Seawolves lost at the No. 3 spot, 8-4, as Brown earned the first point of the match.
Brown then won the top three singles matches to secure the victory. Sophomore Prerana Appineni (Hyderabad, India) lost a close three-setter at No. 4 before Krishnan and Mehter won in straight sets.
The Seawolves return to action on Saturday, hosting Marist at 12 p.m.
