Stony Brook's track and field teams combined to win eight events at the Bryant University Invitational on Wednesday evening. Sophomore Matthew Carnes (Hillsborough, N.J.) won two events, including a school record in the javelin, to lead the men's team. The Seawolves also competed against Providence.
Carnes won the shot put (13.51) and placed first in the javelin (56.66). Also winning top honors on Wednesday was senior Daire Bermingham (Portmarnock, Ireland) in the 800 (1:54.17). Bermingham, along with junior Shamell Forbes (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.), freshman Michael Lopizzo (Northport, N.Y.) and freshman Robert Vietri (Bay Shore, N.Y.) took first in the 4x800 relay.
Sophomore Drew Dillingham (Riverhead, N.Y.), senior Iain Whitfield (Stroud, English) and sophomore Gerard Harley (Setauket, N.Y.) took third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3,000.
On the women's side, sophomore Justine Noel (Brooklyn, N.Y.), junior Lucy Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand), sophomore LaQuashia Hall (New York, N.Y.) and freshman Catherine Young (Hempstead, N.Y.) each won events. Noel won the 400 meter dash (1:00.83), Van Dalen took first in the 800 (2:11.97), Hall placed first in the triple jump (4.98) and Young won the shot put (9.35).
Sophomore Christina Johnson (Elmont, N.Y.) finished second in the 100 meter dash (13.36) and 200 meter dash (27.26). Senior Lisa Voltaire (Stockholm, Sweden) took second in the 800 (2:14.56).
Both squads are back in action on Friday at the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, N.J.
