Sophomore Annie Keown (Auckland, New Zealand) finished second in the mile, and senior Shamell Forbes (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) won the 1,000 to lead Stony Brook's track & field teams in the opening meet of the spring semester at Princeton on Saturday night.
Keown finished in a time of 4:51.58, qualifying for the ECAC's in the process. Forbes won his race 2:37.54, as he was one of four Seawolves in the top eight.
Freshman Anthony Fratto (Farmingdale, N.Y.) threw a 14.29 in the weight throw to finish sixth.
The 60 meter dash was good to the Seawolves, as freshman Chris Priore (Wethersfield, Conn.) ran a 7.58 and sophomore Stephen Reilly (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) did a 7.48. Priore and Reilly finished their heats in sixth and fourth place, respectively.
In the women's 60m dash, junior LaQuashia Hall (New York, N.Y.), junior Kimberly Pough (North Babylon, N.Y.) and junior Christina Johnson (Elmont, N.Y.) each finished in the top five with preliminary times of 8.35, 8.86 and 8.53. Johnson ran a 9.98 in the 60m hurdles.
In the mile, junior Gerard Harley (Setauket, N.Y.) nearly captured his heat, finishing third in a time of 4:27.12.
Freshman Robert Taylor (Jamaica, N.Y.) won Stony Brook's lone representative in the 400, finishing in 55.68.
Junior Andrew Bellinger (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and sophomore Nick Steel (Nanuet, N.Y.) finished one and two in their heat of the 500 (1:11.39 and 1:11.62). Freshman Adam Jacobs (Rexford, N.Y.) took third in his heat of the 500 (1:10.60).
Sophomore Sandeep Dhillon (Flushing, N.Y.) and sophomore Amanda Santoro (Staten Island, N.Y.) ran a 1:27.78 and 1:27.82, respectively, in the 500.
Freshman Peter Liota finished second in his heat of the 800 (2:01.92).
Alongside Forbes in the 1,000, Stony Brook was well represented with freshman Sam Kimmey (Clifton Park, N.Y.) (2:39.50), sophomore Michael Lopizzo (Northport, N.Y.) (2:40.21) and junior Alex Aronis (East Northport, N.Y.) (2:41.79).
On the women's side of the 1,000 junior Page Price (Tampa, Fla.) and junior Jillian Fauser (East Northport, N.Y.) completed the event with times of 2:57.41 and 3:14.95 in their respective heats.
In section two of the 3,000, sophomore Mark Appledorf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) ran a 9:07.62, good for second place.
A 44.66 in the 300 was good for first place for Hall.
Priore won his heat of the 300 (37.67).
The season continues next Saturday at the Met Championships.
