Stony Brook's track and field teams were back in action this weekend, competing in the Giegengack Invitational at Yale University.
Freshman Olivia Burne (Palmerston North, New Zealand) finished second in heat one of the mile with a time of 4:56.93, qualifying her for ECACs. She missed winning the event by just .61 hundredths of a second. Senior Laura Huet (Carrickmines, Ireland) finished seventh in heat one (5:09.16) in the same event.
In the 1000, junior Page Price (Tampa, Fla.) qualified for ECACs with a time of 2:53.73. Her time was just .02 tenths of a second off the winning time.
The women's distance medley relay team, consisting of senior Carolina Cortes (Woodmere, N.Y.), junior Justine Noel (Brooklyn, N.Y.), junior Kristal Conklin (Middletown, N.Y.) and Huet, also qualified for ECACs with a time of 12:03.77 (fifth place).
Junior Christina Johnson (Elmont, N.Y.) ran a 9.54 in the 60m hurdles of finals #1.
On the men's side, senior Alex Felce (Stroud, England), freshman Chris Priore (Wethersfield, Conn.) freshman James Snak (Smithtown, N.Y.) and freshman Daniel Denis (Bayport, N.Y.) nearly missed out on qualifying for IC4As in the men's distance medley relay, settling for seventh place (10:22.24).
Junior Matt Carnes (Hillsborough, N.J.) had a weight throw of 14.60m and junior Gerard Harley (Setauket, N.Y.) finished third in the 3000 (8:37.67).
Both squads are back in action next weekend in the New England area, racing in the Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
