Women's Tennis Knocks Off Northern Iowa, 5-2

West Point, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's women's tennis team won five of six singles matches on its to way to 5-2 victory over Northern Iowa. The win snapped a two-match losing streak.

UNI opened by taking two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Junior Prerana Appineni (Hyderabad, India) and sophomore Aylin Mehter (Massapequa, N.Y.) won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

But the Seawolves then dominated in singles play. Senior Gayatri Krishnan (Chennai, India) dropped just two games at the No. 5 spot, while Mehter lost only three games at No. 3.

Lagvilava won the crucial match at No. 1, rallying for a three-set victory. Appineni also won in three sets at No. 2.

The Seawolves will now be off until March 29 when they will take on Fairleigh Dickinson.
