Stony Brook Athletics hosts Sportsmanship Academy

March 28, 2011

Stony Brook's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a Sportsmanship Academy for youths last Saturday, educating children on the importance of good sportsmanship.

The event took place at Stony Brook's Goldstein Center, and guest speakers included Stony Brook student-athletes and Stony Brook head tennis coach Gary Glassman. Youths were presented with stories on good and bad sportsmanship, and then were shown a series of videos that served as case studies to see what constituted good sportsmanship vs. bad sportsmanship. The youths were then encouraged to make cheer signs that displayed good sportsmanship.

Members of the SAAC and the youths ended the day by attending the men's lacrosse match vs. Bryant, and the softball game vs. Boston University to witness good sportsmanship on the field.
