West Hartford, Conn. -
Stony Brook University's women's tennis team split a pair of conference matches on Saturday afternoon. SBU lost to Binghamton, 4-2, before blanking Hartford, 6-0.
The loss to Binghamton snapped an eight-match winning streak for the Seawolves, who are now 14-4. Both matches were singles only due to impending rain.
Binghamton won the first two matches off the court as Anna Edelman defeated sophomore Nini Lagvilava (Tbilisi, Georgia) at No. 1 and Jillian Santos knocked off junior Prerana Appineni (Hyderabad, India) at No. 3. Junior Salome Mkervalidze (Brewster, N.Y.) then earned the first point of the match for Stony Brook with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6.
But the Bearcats won at the No. 2 and No. 5 spots to clinch the match. Senior Gayatri Krishnan (Chennai, India) won in three sets at No. 4 to earn Stony Brook's other point.
SBU then cruised to victory against Hartford, winning all six matches in straight sets. Stony Brook had three players win without losing a game and two players that dropped just one game.
