Stony Brook, N.Y. - In what has become an annual event to look forward to, Stony Brook Athletics participated in the 19th Annual Walk for Beauty, the community's breast cancer awareness event whose proceeds benefit breast cancer research at Stony Brook Medicine, on Sunday, Oct. 14.
Each year Stony Brook student-athletes serve as cheerleaders for the participants, many of whom were cancer survivors themselves. Over 120 student-athletes attended this year's Walk for Beauty. Student-athlete participation was organized by Stony Brook's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Walk for Beauty began in 1994 as a community effort to raise breast cancer awareness and to establish a boutique for people with cancer. Since 1996, Walk for Beauty has supported breast cancer research at Stony Brook University. Proceeds from this year's walk are going towards research and provide wigs for cancer patients in financial need. Walk for Beauty is held in beautiful and historic Stony Brook.
