Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's tennis team closed its regular season on Saturday, beating Hartford 5-1 in the afternoon after dropping a 4-3 decision to Binghamton in the morning session.

The Seawolves finish the regular season at 11-7. The loss to Binghamton snapped a four-match winning streak.

Stony Brook battled the Bearcats despite being down a player which forced them to default at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Stony Brook needed to win both doubles matches in order to earn the doubles point and junior Nini Lagvilava (Tbilisi, Georgia) and sophomore Polina Movchan (Kiev, Ukraine) won 8-6 at No. 1.

But Binghamton won 8-5 at No. 2 to take a 1-0 lead. Lagvilava and Movchan then won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively to tie it 2-2.

Binghamton then won of the next three matches though to earn the 4-3 win.

The Seawolves cruised to the victory over Hartford, winning all five contested singles matches in straight sets.

The Seawolves return to action next weekend at the 2012 America East Championships at the USTA National Tennis Center in Queens.
