For the second year in a row, Stony Brook University successfully hosted the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship. Nearly 15,000 fans attended the semifinals and national championship game, which were held at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. The Northwestern Wildcats captured the title for the second straight year and seventh time in the last eight years with an 8-6 victory over Syracuse.

This was the second consecutive season that an NCAA Div. I national champion was crowned on Long Island. Last season at Stony Brook, Northwestern topped Maryland for the title.

Stony Brook has now been the proud host of four NCAA lacrosse events, including the 2006 & 2010 Men's Lacrosse quarterfinals and the 2011 & 2012 Women's Lacrosse semifinals and final.
