Stony Brook, N.Y. –The Stony Brook women’s track and field team tallied 11 top-three finishes while the men racked up 10 in the Stony Brook Quad Meet Saturday afternoon at University Track. The meet was the first of the outdoor season for the #Seawolves.
“We had some solid performances in tough weather conditions and are looking forward to what people can get done in the weeks ahead,” Stony Brook track and field head coach Andy Ronan said. “We are hoping for some good weather in Virginia next weekend.”
Freshman Elizabeth Caldwell impressed with a first-place finish in 4:48.37 in the 1,500-meters. Christina Melian and Olivia Ritchie finished first and second, respectively, in the women’s 3,000. Melian, the reigning junior national and ECAC champion in the event, clocked in at 10:01.73 with Ritchie following in 10:12.77.
In the first outdoor meet of her collegiate career, freshman Shi-Anne Humes broke the tape in the 100-meter dash in 12.49. Cali Peffer posted a time of 42.39 for a third-place result in the 300-meters.
Kate Pouder won the women’s 800-meters in 2:17.81, and Danielle Cornell finished third in 2:22.12.
Allyson Laporte continued to build off a solid freshman campaign with a 10.32-meter heave and first-place finish in the shot put. Brittany Spoto tallied a 35.24-meter throw in the javelin to win the event, and Megan Bromley was second with a 34.70-meter throw.
Megan Liu leapt 4.93 meters and secured second in the long jump.
On the men’s side, Daniel Denis claimed top honors in the men’s 3,000-meters with a time of 8:57.19. Alex Kramer came in right behind him in 8:57.64.
The quartet of Vincenzo Battaglia, Winston Longdon, Christian Hadjigeorgiou and Jarrett Button placed first in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:33.63.
Alex Lopresti clocked in at 4:07.97 for third in the 1,500-meters.
Robert Taylor finished third in the 300-meter dash in 35.65, and Bradley Amazan placed third in 1:57.86 in the 800-meters.
Chris Hand won the hammer throw with a 46.73-meter toss and was second in the javelin at 49.68 meters.
Christopher Drury secured second in the discus with a 29.83-meter throw.
Adam Davies took home second in the long jump on a 6.10-meter leap.
