NEW YORK --
Christina Melian of the Stony Brook women's track & field team finished second overall and first among collegiate runners in the 3,000-meter run, and Chris Hand of the men's team was third in the weight throw Friday at the NYC Gotham Cup at the Armory Track & Field Center.

Melian posted a personal best time of 9:30.50, which qualified her for the ECACs, and Hand's throw of 17.73 meters was an IC4A qualifier.

"This was a solid first meet," track & field head coach Andy Ronan said. "We had encouraging performances from Chris and Christina. This meet will help move our fitness level along, so I am looking forward to some good results over the next few weeks."
