Bronx, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's tennis team moved to 10-1 this season with a 7-0 win over Fordham Monday afternoon at the Hawthorn-Rooney Courts.
The duo of sophomore Nadia Smergut (New York, N.Y.) and junior Louise Badoche (Paris, France), who are 6-2 in dual matches at No. 1 doubles, continued their strong play with an 8-5 win.
Senior Polina Movchan (Kiev, Ukraine) and freshman Yana Nikolaeva (Thornhill, Ontario) combined for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
The Seawolves (10-1) received strong singles play at the back end of the lineup. Nikolaeva beat Destiny Grunin, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 5 and senior Cassandra Dix won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6.
Freshman Kristina Vozniak topped Ellie Ball, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 1 singles and freshman Elizabeth Tsvetkov (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who is tied for the team lead with nine dual-match singles wins, won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.
Stony Brook hosts Marist on Friday, April 10.
