Despite earning the doubles point, the Stony Brook women's tennis team lost to Connecticut, 5-2, in the season opener at Army West Point Saturday.
The duo of junior Nadia Smergut (New York, N.Y.) and freshman Anne-Kathrin Hierl (Haan, Germany) claimed a 6-2 win at No. 1. Senior Becky Shtilkind (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Ana Carrion Rodriguez (La Linea, Spain) clinched the point for the Seawolves with a 7-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Sophomore Elizabeth Tsvetkov (Brooklyn, N.Y.), last year's America East Rookie of the Year, picked up her first dual match win at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Srna Stosljevic.
Smergut was among three singles competitiors who fell in three sets.
The Seawolves will continue to spring season Friday, February 12 at Lehigh.
