Melian competes at NCAA Championships

March 11, 2016

Birmingham, Ala. - Stony Brook indoor track & field junior Christina Melian (Staten Island, N.Y.) competed Friday night at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the women’s 5000m. Melian, who posted one of the top 16 times in the nation during the indoor season to qualify, exited the race with three laps remaining and did not finish.

Coach Ronan’s Take
“It was a tough night for Christina … Actually, a tough week leading into tonight with some allergy issues. She is not one to use excuses, but in order to compete at this high level, you have to be firing on all cylinders. That was not the case for her tonight. However, she will bounce back stronger than before.”

Notes
- Melian’s time of 15:48.77 at Boston University Feb. 12 ranked 13th in the nation during the indoor season leading up to Friday.
- 2016 marked the second consecutive season Melian competed in the 5000m at the NCAA Championships. Melian finished 13th in 2015 (16:17.26).
