Ithaca, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women’s tennis team split a pair of matches at Cornell over the weekend, defeating Niagara and falling to the host Big Red. Stony Brook moves to 5-4 in dual matches following weekend competition.

Stony Brook 6, Niagara 1
The Seawolves won the doubles point and five singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over the Purple Eagles Sunday.

Sophomore Elizabeth Tsvetkov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was victorious in straight sets at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-2), while sophomore Yana Nikolaeva (Thornhill, Ontario) captured a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2.

Freshman Devanshi Bhimjiyani (Rajkot, India) won 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 at No. 3, freshman Anne-Kathrin Hierl (Haan, Germany) won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 and freshman Ana Carrion Rodriguez picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6.

The Seawolves’ No. 1 doubles duo of Tsvetkov and Nikolaeva picked up the lone victory for Stony Brook (7-6 (6)) in a defeat at the hands of host Cornell Saturday.


The Seawolves return to action Friday, March 25, when they face UMBC in Baltimore, Maryland.
