On the Road Again

I love to tell our story. In fact, it is the reason that I started this blog. We have a powerful cause, and it is to transform the lives of young women and men so that they can graduate from Stony Brook and transform the world. Our goal is for each of our student-athletes to leave Stony Brook with a degree and a job. We also aspire to be one of the nation's premier athletic programs.

Many of the ingredients required to be an elite program are here: Stony Brook is a highly-ranked, world-class academic institution on an incredible trajectory; we have a strong president who understands the importance of athletics; and our school is situated in a desirable geographic location. Athletics is a vital part of elevating the national profile of our University. We can be one of the top 20 public research institutions AND have a top 20 athletics program. It is going to take a great deal of work as well as financial resources. Our five-year vision, Together We Transform, presents the initial blueprint.

What are we doing to position Stony Brook Athletics for success right now? I invite you to attend the Seawolves United Road Show to find out.

The dates and locations of the Road Show are (all events scheduled for 6 - 8 p.m.):

Tuesday, May 10 Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown | Smithtown, N.Y.
Tuesday, May 17 Juniper Bar | New York City
Wednesday, May 18 Pure Parsippany | Parsippany, N.J.

This year's Road Show will feature coaches Jeff Boals, Caroline McCombs and Chuck Priore as well as other special guests. The Road Show events serve as an opportunity to gather together and celebrate Stony Brook Athletics. We have quite a story to tell, so please make plans to join us!

Ochi Feeling a Draft

Victor Ochi is about to realize his dream - and make history for Stony Brook. The NFL Draft gets underway tonight in Chicago and, at some point over the next 72 hours, it is expected that Victor will hear his name called. When he does, he will become the first Seawolves football player to be selected.

After his performances at the East-West Shrine Game, NFL Combine and Stony Brook Pro Day, Victor has put himself in a great position. I'm very proud of Victor and all that he accomplished as a Seawolf. Regardless of which team drafts him, I will immediately become its newest fan.

Sunday's Forecast: '87

The baseball team has an important three-game series this weekend at Joe Nathan Field against UMBC. On Sunday, a contingent of alumni from the late 1980s will return and the team will wear special throwback uniforms. The uniforms will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the baseball program.

First pitch on Sunday is at noon at Joe Nathan Field. If you love baseball and 80s music like me, you won't miss it. Our softball team is also in action at noon on Sunday so it's definitely going to be a great day!

She Shoots and Scores (A Lot)!

Courtney Murphy, a junior on the women's lacrosse team, is currently leading the nation in goals with 81. She scored eight goals in each of the last two games (wins over Binghamton and Hofstra) and is averaging 5.06 goals per game.

How good has she been? This stat says it all: Courtney has 63 goals during the team's current 11-game winning streak while the opposing teams have combined for 56 over that span. Wow.

The sixth-ranked women's lacrosse team wraps up the regular season at Albany on Saturday.

We're coming down the home stretch of the 2015-16 competitive season… Keep believing!

Warm regards,

Shawn
