A total of 23 Stony Brook student-athletes were honored with Undergraduate Recognition Awards at a ceremony Monday night in the Student Activities Center.
The Seawolves student-athletes were honored in four categories:
- Academic Excellence, for students whose passion for learning has extended beyond the classroom (demonstrated, for example, by excellence in research, internship or creative activity)
- Athletic Excellence, for students who have achieved a high level of athletic performance
- Excellence in Community Service, for students who have given generously of their time, servicing in various capacities for the benefit of the University and surrounding community
- Excellence in Leadership, for students who have assumed leadership roles in a variety of University organizations, including societies, clubs, sororities, fraternities, and associations
“Our student-athletes truly embrace their roles as campus leaders, and to have 23 of them recognized by President Stanley with an Undergraduate Recognition Award speaks to the commitment that each one has to represent Stony Brook with class and distinction,” said Director of Athletics Shawn Heilbron. “I am so proud of them and all that they have accomplished not only as student-athletes but as leaders on campus and in the community.”
Men’s soccer had four student-athletes honored, while women’s lacrosse and men’s cross country/track & field each had three. Baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, women’s cross country/track & field, football, men’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, softball and volleyball were also represented among the 23 honorees.
